On Monday (May 19), soccer, music, and community came together at the Tenple field in Villaviciosa de Odón, Madrid, where the Young Kingz Foundation – led by Myke Towers – and David Villa’s DV7 Academy officially announced their global alliance. The event marked the beginning of a series of joint initiatives aimed at creating real opportunities for young people in vulnerable contexts. Towers, one of the most influential voices in the Latin urban movement, and Villa, the all-time top scorer for the Spanish national soccer team and 2010 World Cup champion, share a common vision: to transform lives through talent, discipline, and social commitment. “I’m not doing this hoping it will break like a song,” Towers said. “It’s more about leaving a legacy. Creating a habit. you can help, do it, in your own way.” “I feel good because this brings together two things that I’m passionate about: music and sports,” he added later. “And if I can do something for others through that, even better.” For Towers, the essential thing is to give back: “When you are blessed, it’s natural to want to bless others,” he told Billboard Español. Although Villa could not be present at the event because he was visiting one of his academies in the Dominican Republic, he shared a moment with Towers through a video call, in which they both reaffirmed their commitment to join forces to give real tools to young people. Towers took the opportunity to thank him for his previous visit to the Quintana Club in Puerto Rico, a gesture that marked the beginning of the bond between the two foundations. Villa, for his part, celebrated the collaboration with the Young Kingz Foundation. “Soccer is a powerful tool for creating community and well-being,” he told Billboard, and confessed that his favorite song by Towers is “Lala.” The alliance is already underway with projects in Puerto Rico, New York, Colombia, and Spain that include free sports clinics, exchange programs, urban space recovery, and educational support for minors in vulnerable situations. For Villa, the most rewarding thing is to see the immediate effect on the daily lives of young people. “When I visit the academies and see them happy, sharing, and enjoying, that’s the most beautiful thing,” he commented. “You can win or lose, but the important thing is that they have an enriching experience.” The Young Kingz Foundation was officially established in July 2024, but Myke Towers’ community commitment had been brewing long before that. “Michael had already been supporting his community consistently. The foundation allowed us to organize that effort and multiply its impact,” explained Derick Luna, president of the board of directors and business manager for the artist. One of the standout stories from the meeting was that of Mateo Bermúdez, a 13-year-old Puerto Rican soccer player who traveled from his hometown to attend the event. He shared how the DV7 Academy had changed his life, giving him the opportunity to train with professional coaches and compete in international tournaments. “I am very grateful to David Villa and the Young Kingz Foundation for giving me this opportunity,” he said. “I have learned so much and made friends from all over the world.” The alliance between the two foundations also aims to promote education and social inclusion. In Puerto Rico, they have launched a program to provide school supplies and support to children in need. In New York, they are working on a project to renovate a community center and create a safe space for young people to gather and participate in sports and music activities. In Colombia, they are collaborating with local organizations to provide educational and vocational training to young people affected by violence and poverty. And in Spain, they are planning to launch a mentorship program to connect young people with successful professionals in various fields. “We want to give young people the tools to succeed in life, regardless of their background or circumstances,” said Luna. “Through this alliance, we hope to inspire and empower the next generation to reach their full potential.” The event at Tenple field was a celebration of the power of sports and music to bring people together and create positive change. As Towers and Villa shared their vision for the future, it was clear that this alliance is just the beginning of a long-term commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people around the world. “We are just getting started,” said Towers. “There is so much more we can do together.
