The wait for Christian Nodal’s new album is over. The regional Mexican star released ¿Quién + Como Yo? on Thursday (May 22), his first solo LP since Ayayay! in 2020. With this 12-track production, Nodal seeks to “expose the mariacheño” and “make us proud of our roots,” he tells Billboard Español. Released through Sony Music Mexico, ¿Quién + Como Yo? – which follows his EP PA’L CORA EP. 02 released in January – includes the previous singles “El amigo,” “Amé,” and “X perro,” which gave a glimpse of the direction his new songs were taking: a combination of sounds that he brought to Mexican music to give it a new air almost a decade ago, and a lot of emotion in the lyrics. But for those wondering, “There’s nothing personal here,” Nodal assures. “These are songs that touched my soul. I think we’ve all been through things like this.” In this album, the 26-year-old artist from Sonora is accompanied by three great regional stars with very different styles: Alfredo Olivas, on the heartbreak song “Se vienen días tristes”; Tito Double P, on a corrido tumbado titled “La Loba”; and Netón Vega, on the self-improvement single “EBVSY,” which is released alongside the album. Prior to the release of this production, Nodal posted a video on his social media expressing his feelings about this moment in his career. “This is not just an album,” said the winner of six Latin Grammys. “It’s a toast to what’s been lost, what hurts, and what still stands.” He also announced a new tour of the United States, the 2025 Tour, with nearly twenty dates starting on November 7 in Los Angeles. Below, Christian Nodal talks exclusively with Billboard Español about the creation of his new album, ¿Quién + Como Yo? Musically, what can we find on this new album? What we’re trying to do is expose the mariacheño, make us proud of our roots, our instruments, and all the beautiful arrangements. In the videos, we’re also showcasing Mexico. There’s only one tumbado. How did the collaborations with Alfredo Olivas, Tito Double P, and Netón Vega come about? The song with Alfredo Olivas came about thanks to my engineer, who is his friend. I asked him to call him and he was excited to do the collaboration. It’s an honor to work with him, he’s a great musician and performer. With Tito, there’s a lot of camaraderie, and with Netón, it turns out we coincided in Culiacán and well, he’s one of the most listened to Mexicans in the world. How was the recording of these songs with them? Everything was recorded remotely. I only recorded the video with Alfredo, but there was always communication with everyone and everything went very well.
