Bobby Pulido announced at the end of last year his retirement from music to run for a political position in 2026. However, the icon of norteño-tejano music still has a lot to offer. In an exclusive interview with Billboard Español, Pulido reveals that he has signed with Fonovisa/Universal for a double album and another unreleased album that he will release before closing his chapter as a singer.
“I wanted something special with my friends, something where I could invite people that I admire and respect,” explains Pulido about Bobby Pulido & Friends – Una Tuya y Una Mía (One of Yours and One of Mine), the title of the production that marks the beginning of this alliance. “Normally, it is customary for the guests to sing each other’s songs, but in this case, I wanted it to be one of mine and one of theirs.”
The recording of this production took place in December 2024 during Pulido’s performances at the Auditorio Cumbres in Monterrey, Nuevo León, where he had as guests Alicia Villareal, Bronco, Kinky, Caloncho, Majo Aguilar, and David Bisbal, among other stars. The concept will begin to be revealed on April 22 with the release of his hit “Desvelado” (Sleepless) as a duet with Bisbal. Two days later, a version of Bisbal’s song “Dígale” (Tell Him) in the norteño-tejano style will be available on platforms.
Antonio Silva, managing director of Fonovisa Disa US & Mexico, tells Billboard Español: “For the team and personally for me, who coincided with him at the beginning of his career, it is very emotional to reunite at this special moment, working on a product that represents the legacy of a life of successes.”
The first part of Bobby Pulido & Friends – Una Tuya y Una Mía includes 14 songs that will be released week by week starting from the mentioned date until May 30. On June 17, the 16 songs from the second set will begin to be released, concluding on August 7. From L to R: Antonio Silva (managing director Fonovisa-Disa US/Mexico), Bobby Pulido, Alfredo Delgadillo (CEO & president, Universal Music Mexico/US), José Luis Cornejo (manager Bobby Pulido)
Born in Edinburg, Texas, the interpreter of hits such as “Se murió de amor” (He Died of Love), “Le pediré” (I Will Ask You), and “Ojalá te animes” (I Hope You Cheer Up) belongs to a successful subgenre of regional Mexican music that emerged in the mid-90s and also includes groups like Intocable, La Firma, El Plan, and Duelo, all with Mexican blood born in the United States. “We made our own music by mixing cultures. I feel very honored to have represented this movement for many years and to be a mentor for the new generations,” adds Pulido. “I am happy with what I have achieved in my career, I never wanted to be just the artist of the moment.”
In addition to the double album, Pulido is preparing a studio album for next year with which he plans to leave new music for his fans before running for public office.
