Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour is sweeping the world, filling stadiums, breaking records, and solidifying the Colombian superstar’s legacy as one of the most influential voices in music and culture. But behind the stunning shows, emotional moments, and incredible costumes, is French photographer Nicolas Gerardin, who has captured all the energy, intimacy, and humanity in images that speak louder than words. Known for his work with celebrities from various industries – such as Lisa from BLACKPINK, Nick Jonas, Jeff Bezos, Leo Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo – Gerardin combines precision with an emotive visual narrative in his photography. His collaboration with Shakira began two years ago, just as the singer released her successful session with Bizarrap, marking a new milestone in her career. Since then, Gerardin has become a key part of her creative team, accompanying her on her current stadium tour, which began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 11. “When I photograph Shakira, I focus on capturing what makes her a legend: her presence, energy, and the essence that has made her an icon for decades,” Gerardin tells Billboard Español, who also recently photographed her for covers of GQ, Elle, and Marie Claire magazines. “It’s about telling her story in every photo. I always try to show her true essence, her art, and the depth of her impact.” Gerardin also highlights Shakira’s level of commitment to every detail of her tour. “She is aware of everything, from production to lighting. She knows everything about cameras. She knows what works best for her,” he explains, highlighting how the artist’s practical and detailed approach ensures that all aspects of her tour align with her carefully crafted vision. Despite her worldwide fame, Gerardin attributes Shakira’s magnetism to her sensitivity and deep emotional connection to her art. “She is very emotionally involved in everything. She always wants the best for her fans. She is a woman full of emotions, very sensitive. She cares about everyone… She wants to give the best for her fans,” he shares. Gerardin’s commitment to capturing Shakira’s tour goes far beyond the stage or concert photos. His work often focuses on behind-the-scenes moments, those quieter fragments of her life outside the spotlight that tell their own story. “My vision is to create an iconic image that will last forever,” he says. “It can be her putting on makeup or finishing the last song of the show exhausted.” These small pieces come together to portray a woman in full motion: a legend embracing her transformation in real time. Among his favorite photos is a high-concept promotional shoot for the album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, where Shakira is depicted as a powerful goddess, surrounded by a sea of flowers. “It was a very special moment because it was the first time she had done a photo shoot like this,” Gerardin recalls. “She was very involved in the creative process and was very excited about the result.” Another standout moment for Gerardin was capturing Shakira’s performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2020, which he describes as “a dream come true.” “It was a very intense and emotional moment for her, and I was honored to be there to capture it,” he says. As Shakira’s tour continues to captivate audiences around the world, Gerardin’s photos serve as a testament to her enduring impact and legacy. “Shakira is a true artist, and her music and performances have touched the lives of millions of people,” he says. “It’s an honor to be able to capture her journey and be a part of her creative team.
