Rimas Entertainment, the independent label where Bad Bunny records, has acquired a “significant” stake in DALE PLAY Records, the innovative Argentine label, creating a strategic alliance that brings together two record labels with enormous international reach and will boost the global impact of Rimas. The agreement includes Sony Music Latin Iberia, which will continue to have a stake in DALE PLAY. Rimas ended 2024 at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Labels list and is also home to Eladió Carrión and Arcángel, among many others. DALE PLAY is the label of Bizarrap, Rels B, and rapper Duki, among others. The new agreement was made possible thanks to the support of Rob Stringer (Chairman of Sony Music Group and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment) and Afo Verde (Chairman/CEO of Sony Music for Latin America, Spain, and Portugal), as well as Brad Navin and Jason Pascal of The Orchard. Fede Lauria, the Argentine executive who founded DALE PLAY Records in Argentina in 2017 and has taken it to where it is today, will continue to be its CEO and will retain a smaller stake in the company. The Orchard will continue to distribute DALE PLAY as it has done for years. DALE PLAY’s other businesses, such as its publishing company, live show department, and representation and management of artists such as Duki, Nicki Nicole, and Bizarrap, are not part of the agreement and will continue solely under Lauria. This alliance brings together two independent companies that have changed the way Latin music is made and promoted worldwide, each developing and leveraging a new wave of Spanish-language urban music – one focused on Puerto Rico (Rimas) and the other on Argentina (DALE PLAY) – with international ambitions. Rimas has already expanded its roster beyond Puerto Rico, signing artists from Spain such as Quevedo and from Mexico such as Latin Mafia. “From day one, our mission has been to support and develop artists with authenticity and respect for their identity,” said Noah Assad, CEO of Rimas Entertainment. “With Federico and DALE PLAY, we have built a relationship based on trust and mutual admiration. This alliance will allow us to continue expanding boundaries and creating new opportunities for our artists and teams.” In a previous conversation with Billboard, Assad mentioned that this is Rimas’ first major acquisition and that it is the result of a long friendship and many business deals between him and Lauria. “We are working hand in hand and what we are doing is adding more value to each other, he to me and me to him,” he said. “The collaboration already existed. We are formalizing something that was already happening.” Lauria, who was already established as a producer and concert promoter in Argentina under the name DALE PLAY, created the DALE PLAY label in 2017. From the beginning, he focused on a new urban movement of rap and trap that was starting to emerge in Argentina. In 2020, Sony joined the label as a partner, providing resources and support to help it grow. The partnership with Rimas will now bring even more opportunities for DALE PLAY artists to expand their reach globally. “This alliance with Rimas is a natural evolution of our relationship,” said Lauria. “We have always shared a vision of supporting and promoting authentic and diverse music, and now we will be able to do it on a larger scale.” The partnership between Rimas and DALE PLAY is a testament to the growing influence and impact of Latin urban music worldwide. With this alliance, both labels will continue to push the boundaries and break barriers, bringing the best of Latin music to audiences around the world.
