Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars continue their reign on the Billboard Global 200 chart with their hit song “Die With a Smile”. The ballad has now spent a total of 15 weeks at the top spot, making it one of the longest-running No. 1 songs on the chart. In addition, the song has also returned to the No. 1 position on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, where it has now spent 12 weeks at the top.
“Die With a Smile” first reached the No. 1 spot on both charts back in September of last year. The Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts were launched in September 2020 and rank songs based on streaming and sales data collected from over 200 territories around the world, compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 includes data from all over the world, while Global Excl. U.S. is based on data from territories outside of the United States.
The rankings on these charts are determined by a weighted formula that takes into account official streams from subscription services and ad-supported music services (both audio and video), as well as sales from digital music retailers around the world, excluding direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales from the calculations. With 95.1 million streams (a 1% decrease from the previous week) and 6,000 sales (virtually unchanged) worldwide from March 28 to April 3, “Die With a Smile” continues to hold onto the top spot on the Global 200. With 15 weeks at No. 1, the song now ties for the second-longest-running song at the top since the chart’s inception:
– 19 weeks at No. 1, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, Mariah Carey (2020-25)
– 15 weeks at No. 1, “Die With a Smile”, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars (2024-25)
– 15 weeks at No. 1, “As It Was”, Harry Styles (2022)
– 14 weeks at No. 1, “Flowers”, Miley Cyrus (2023)
– 12 weeks at No. 1, “APT.”, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars (2024-25)
– 11 weeks at No. 1, “Stay”, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber (2021)
Meanwhile, “APT.” remains at No. 2 on the Global 200, while Alex Warren’s first top 10 hit “Ordinary” climbs to No. 3 for its highest position yet. “Anxiety” by Doechii drops to No. 4 from its peak at No. 3, and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” rises to No. 5 after spending three weeks at No. 1 on the chart last August.
Ariana Grande’s “Twilight Zone” makes its debut in the top 10 of the Global 200 at No. 7 with 43.2 million streams and 6,000 sales worldwide. This is her seventh top 10 hit on the chart and is part of the newly reissued edition of her album Eternal Sunshine (2024), titled Brighter Days Ahead, which has also returned to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States.
The success of “Die With a Smile” and “Twilight Zone” on the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts is a testament to the global appeal of these artists and their music. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars have proven once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, while Ariana Grande continues to dominate the charts with her powerful vocals and catchy songs.
As the music industry continues to evolve and streaming becomes the dominant form of music consumption, it will be interesting to see how these charts continue to reflect the changing landscape. For now, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars can celebrate their 15th week at No. 1 on the Global 200, while Ariana Grande can bask in the success of her latest hit “Twilight Zone”. With such talented artists at the top of the charts, the future of music looks bright indeed.
