 Olga Tañón brought the power of her fire to the stage of Billboard Mujeres Latinas en la Música as she kicked off the third edition of the event on Thursday (April 24), broadcast live by Telemundo. The Mujer de Fuego performed a powerful medley of hits that included “Basta ya,” “El reclamo,” “Escondidos,” “Cómo olvidar,” and “Así soy yo.” Moments later, she received the Musical Trajectory Award for her unparalleled influence as a merengue singer from her friend and compatriot Luis Fonsi, who described her as “more than a star, a force of nature,” and an “undisputed reference for the Latin woman” as an artist, mother, and wife, and her “musical godmother” for supporting him early in his career by inviting him to sing together. Having a big career “sometimes takes a long time,” she added, “but by doing the right things, you can get there.” Later, Tañón would participate in the tribute to Celia Cruz alongside La India and Ivy Queen. With almost four decades of artistic career, Olga Tañón has not only conquered hearts, but also shaped the tropical style, earning a special place in the history of Latin music with her interpretive quality, her unmistakable mezzo-soprano voice, and her high energy on stage.
