Julión Álvarez, one of the biggest names in regional Mexican music, was forced to postpone his highly anticipated concert at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday due to unforeseen circumstances. According to his team, the singer was unable to enter the United States, leaving fans disappointed and confused.
In a joint statement released by Álvarez, his promoter CMN, and his management agency Copar Music, it was explained that, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Julión Álvarez was unable to arrive in time for his sold-out show at the AT&T Stadium. With nearly 50,000 tickets sold, this show promised to be an unforgettable night for fans. Both CMN and Copar Music, along with Julión’s team, are actively working to reschedule the concert as soon as possible. Julión Álvarez sincerely thanks his fans for their patience and continuous support, and looks forward to reuniting with his Texas fans very soon.”
In a video posted on Instagram, Álvarez himself addressed the situation, revealing that his work visa had been cancelled. “It’s a situation that is out of our hands. This is the information I have and what I can share,” he said.
This unfortunate turn of events comes just a month after Álvarez’s triumphant return to the United States with three sold-out shows at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. These shows marked his comeback to the American stage after eight years of legal troubles that began on August 10, 2017, when the U.S. Department of Treasury accused him of money laundering and ties to drug trafficking. This led to the shutdown of his social media accounts and the rejection of American companies to work with the singer from Chiapas, keeping him away from the stage in that country. In May 2022, the charges were dropped and Álvarez announced in a press conference that everything had been “cleared up.”
The three concerts in Los Angeles and the one in Texas this year were part of the preparation for his upcoming 4218 Tour in the U.S., although the tour dates had not yet been announced. While it is unclear why Álvarez was unable to enter the U.S., this news comes at a time when several international artists have faced visa issues, affecting some regional Mexican music events.
Earlier this month, for example, the Michelada Fest in Chicago was cancelled due to uncertainty with the artists’ visas. Today’s press release mentions that already purchased tickets “will be valid for the new date,” but if fans are unable to attend the rescheduled concert, “details will be provided for requesting refunds.”
